2026 Summer Reading Program Student Volunteers Needed

Are you a student in high school or college and need some volunteer hours this summer? Fill out our form below, and we will contact you soon to enroll you in the program!

To volunteer with us you must:

  • Be 14 years old or older.

  • Be able to listen and follow instructions.

  • Be able to complete an assigned task with limited supervision after receiving instructions.

  • Enjoy working with children.

  • Stay focused and calm during high-energy programs.

  • Download and use the BAND app for scheduling time slots and communicating as necessary with supervisors.

  • Have your own transportation or reliable transportation from a parent/guardian to and from the library.

  • Inform the Youth Services Librarian as soon as possible if you cannot come on your assigned day/time.

During the Summer Reading Program, time slots are typically scheduled for 3 hours at a time. You are required to sign-up for at least 5 time slots over the two-month period, for a total of 15 volunteer hours.

Tasks will include:

  • running an assigned craft or activity “station” during a kids program

  • shelving and shelf-reading books in the Youth Services Department

  • Redeeming badges in Beanstack and handing out prizes to patrons

  • craft prepping crafts and activities for children’s programs

  • cleaning and tidying the Youth Services Department

At the end of your volunteer period, if you have volunteered satisfactorily, you may be entitled to a reference from the Youth Services Librarian when applying for a future job, college application, or scholarship.
